This is a small email to give out some
information regarding teacher development. There are two things that I have
found interesting this month regarding teaching ideas and teacher development:
One is what they call a WEBINAR or seminar
via the web. This is on the Macmillan English website. One that I found
interesting is titled “Taking students from Upper Intermediate to Advanced”.
This is a topic which may challenge many of us. The speaker, Roy Norris, talks
for 45 minutes on that topic giving examples and supporting it with a slide
show. During the talk, he gives lots of links and resource information which
can help you accomplish that very goal.
To view the webinar follow this link: http://www.macmillanenglish.com/Course.aspx?id=44880[1].
The video can also be downloaded (it’s in an ‘m4v’ format which I’m not sure
what that is but I suspect it’s an apple standard since they offer you to
download it to your iPod).
The second teacher development information
that I have found is from International House. They are offering a series of
videos of ACTUAL CLASSROOM TEACHING. They are offering 15 DVDs of lessons
taught by International House Teachers (London) which can be purchased
individually or as a package.
The recorded lessons cover a range of English
levels, cover business English, general English and English for academic
purposes and present a wide range of lessons such as phonology, speaking,
reading, task-based learning, grammar and more.
He he, it sounds like I’m selling this
product but actually, they are quite pricy. However for someone like myself who
is interested in attaining a DELTA diploma level of English teaching, it may be
an excellent way of doing the teacher observation part of the teacher training
since it covers such a variety of lessons.
So, this is a few notes that may be of
interest to some of you. If any of the 187 teachers on our mailing list have
anything of interest that you wish to share with others regarding teacher
development, please send an email to info@tdf-esl.com[4]
with the details. It will be a pleasure to post it in a newsletter.
