PRAGMATICS (Michelle Czajkowski)
15 November, 2004

This week's meeting on Pragmatics was presented by Michelle in the form of a workshop.

As I am sure you all know and teach; doing optimizes learning, so my recommendation is to follow this week's newsletter as though it were a brief workshop.

This entails first opening document Pragmatics 1 and looking through the utterances and dialogues. As you look, think about what kind of problems they may pose for students and why.

Then, open document Pragmatics 2 and follow a brief guide that will give you feedback on your ideas and show you where pragmatics (what on earth is that??) fits in.

Finally, a few comments on where all of this may fit into our world of teaching English.

Have fun, and before you give up so easily to that temptation to open the document Pragmatics 2 first and be done with it.....let me leave you with a great sage's words resonating, poetically in your ears....

"Tell me and I will listen, show me and I will understand, involve me and I will learn."
