This spring (2009), the Chinese Ministry of Education launched a program
to encourage reading among school children in urban and rural schools
throughout the country.
You may read a few
suggestions in the meeting notes but we have one request to ask all TDF members
as a starting point:
What
is one English book that you can recommend for young learners, that is primary
school or middle school (junior high)?
Here are the criteria:
The book must be available in bookstores in
Beijing or be available in China,
You should give a brief synopsis of what you
feel is beneficial in offering that book as a reader,
You can perhaps tell us where it may be bought
if you know.
We may submit our
recommendations to someone involved in the reading program. Send us your
suggestion at info@tdf-esl.com.
We welcome any other
suggestion to help in the China-wide reading program.

Job Offers! Have a look at
the ‘job offers’ page. It’s a
new page that will be kept up-to-date with jobs, contracts or special projects
that are submitted to TDF or that is known within the circle of conversations.
For those that are looking
for teachers, writers or others skills, send us your request so that we may
post it on that page.
About us
TDF is Teacher Development
Forum (or Teacher Discussion Forum if you like).
TDF is a group of ESL
teachers in Beijing who get together on a regular basis to talk, discuss, meet
and generally share common interests and experiences involving the teaching of
English as a Second Language.
Members of TDF have a wide
range of teaching experience which includes teaching younger ones, teaching in
regular schools and language schools, tutoring individuals and giving corporate
English training to companies. Many of the members are also involved in non
teaching aspects of the English language such as copy editing, writing books,
curriculum planning and more.
TDF is a way to connect, get
to know others in the field. It’s a hub for networking and finding teaching
jobs (and teachers). It’s a small gateway to teaching in Beijing and China. TDF
can be a great help to new teachers or teachers that have just arrived in
China. By asking fellow members, others may have lived the same situation you
are having and offer some guidelines (from food to visa applications).
TDF, in its 5 years of
existence has hosted regular discussion forums regarding teaching issues, given
teaching workshops to hundreds of student teachers and held a mini-seminar on
teaching in China.
